![]() ![]() A spin-off of the highly popular Fallout game series, this mobile game is all about keeping your dwellers happy and working, and increasing the number of dwellers living in your shelter. It’s a fabulous example of how the way society perceives or treats some women can work to the detriment of all women, and the pervasive, systematic discrimination that results. Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play sim game by Bethesda where players try to construct an underground fallout shelter for their dwellers. In a stroke, with one unnecessary design decision (pregnant women no longer fight ), Fallout Shelter has turned me into a systematic, discriminatory misogynist. It has become my default decision: men get the best outfits and the best guns, because some women might, some day, get pregnant. I don’t have to remember to make changes. Any time a woman gets pregnant I have to check her weapon change it give her powerful gun to someone who won’t run screaming from a fight. Women will fight just as well as men (until they get knocked up). Of course, I don’t need to discriminate against ALL women only the pregnant ones. I know that even if he becomes a father, he will still fight off Radroaches. In fact, most of my female dwellers have no weapons, and none of them have high powered weapons. So Denise, who is one of my best characters, doesn’t have a weapon. When a Radroach attacks, or raiders raid, or fires break out, they put their hands in the air and run screaming for safety. She works effectively in my water treatment works and can hold her own in a fight against invading Radroaches. (If you haven’t played Fallout, those bars above the letters SPECIAL represent attributes such as Strength, Charisma and Luck). In fact, according to Apple, about 13% of users have accounts that are over 10 years old and haven't been activated since iTunes 12 was released in 2012. Bottom lineĮSET Cyber Security Pro gives you all the protection you need, plus a firewall, and parental controls at a higher than normal price. It’s a great idea as a resource for users unfamiliar with the basics of online security. All it does is link to a webpage on ESET’s site where you can learn about standard precautions to take against malware attacks, phishing sites, and best practices for password management, two-factor authentication, and more. Avast Security Pro on Mac has a similar feature, and these network monitors will only become more useful as more essential bits of our homes go online including lighting, thermostats, and appliances.Ĭybersecurity Training, meanwhile, is a great idea to include in a security suite. The Windows feature lets you observe your entire home network, all the devices on it, and any potential issues. We’re a little disappointed this section doesn’t include the “Connected Home Monitor” available on Windows. The former lets you see which processes on your Mac are accessing the network, which is nice for advanced users but a little unreadable for everyone else. Two other items of note in ESET CSP include the Tools and Cybersecurity Training sections. Still, the price is quite high considering our current favorite Mac antivirus suite, Sophos Home Premium, is just $50 to cover 10 devices. PricingĮSET Security Pro for Mac is priced at $50 per year for a single Mac and $10 for each additional Mac up to five, after which it is $5 for each additional Mac up to ten Macs. It's nice that the cost is per-device and you can add as many as you need, so instead of paying $90 to cover up to 5 devices-a common pricing scheme-you can just pay for three or four machines. There’s no password manager as many other security suites offer, or a disk “cleaner” like Norton Security Deluxe has for sniffing out duplicate and unnecessary files. ![]() The extras include a firewall and parental control, and that’s it. ![]() Yet there isn’t a lot here compared to ESET’s base suite. From the home screen ESET CSP shows green check marks for not just your computer, but also your firewall, Web, and email, and there’s a parental control status indicator as well.Ī Pro-level security suite is nothing if it doesn’t have extra security features beyond basic scanning and real-time protection. Navigation is made easy on left-hand rail with all actions carried out in the main part of the window. Interface and featuresĮSET’s basic user interface on Mac is similar to what we’ve seen on Windows. Overall, ESET’s protection on Mac is very good and ultimately protected us from the more common malicious threats. AV-Comparatives scored ESET Internet Security around 98 to 99 percent on all of its tests, while AV-Test’s most recent round of testing did not include ESET for Windows. ![]() ESET Smart Security received a AAA rating from SE Labs for its July to September 2018 tests. Like many suites, ESET offers to scan USB drives as soon as you plug them in, and you can choose to mark some drives as safe so that ESET will not scan them when you use them in the future.ĮSET’s Windows protection also comes highly rated. That’s not always the case, however ESET did at times delete entire DMG files. Depending on the type of malware, ESET’s approach is to remove the malware code from within documents and other files as opposed to deleting the entire thing. These threats were detected as soon as the malware was unzipped, and ESET alerted us to the issue and began automated clean-up. Moving over to spot checks with malware from the Objective See repository, ESET immediately detected trojans, backdoors, and ransomware. The only issue we noticed was that ESET didn’t detect the Adobe Flash hacking team leak however, we tested on Safari without an active Flash plugin. Our own checks produced a similar result when testing ESET CSP on a MacBook running macOS Mojave (AV-Test used High Sierra).ĮSET had no trouble blocking most of the threats on WICAR’s test site of prevalent web-based attacks. AV-Test gave ESET CSP a perfect score on its widespread and prevalent malware test in December, the most recent test available. Quiz Ref ID The Infant Aphakia Treatment Study (IATS) is a multicenter randomized clinical trial comparing visual outcomes following cataract surgery with or without IOL implantation in infants aged 1 to 6 months with a unilateral congenital cataract. However, there is a general reluctance to implant IOLs in young children because their eyes can develop large refractive errors later in childhood and they have a higher risk of developing visual axis opacities after IOL implantation. 1 - 3 Compared with aphakic contact lenses and eyeglasses, IOLs have the advantage that partial optical correction is worn at all times. Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are being used increasingly to focus eyes in children after cataract surgery. Trial Registration Identifier: NCT00212134 Implanting an IOL at the time of cataract extraction was neither beneficial nor detrimental to the visual outcome. Although the overall difference in median visual acuity between the 2 groups was small, the estimate was imprecise (99% CI for the difference in medians was −0.54 to 0.47).Ĭonclusions and Relevance As in previous phases of the study, visual acuity outcomes were highly variable with only 27 children (25%) achieving excellent visual acuity in their treated eye and 50 children (44%) having poor vision in the treated eye. The median logMAR acuity in the treated eye was similar in children randomized to receive an IOL at the time of cataract extraction (0.89 interquartile range, 0.33-1.43 ) and those who remained aphakic (0.86 IQR, 0.30-1.46 ) (IQR, 0.30-1.46 P = .82). Overall, 27 of the children (25%) had good (logMAR 0.30 or better) visual acuity in the treated eye (12 in the IOL group and 15 in the aphakia group), but 50 children (44%) had a visual acuity of logMAR 1.00 (Snellen equivalent, 20/200) or worse (25 in the IOL group and 25 in the aphakia group). The participants included 58 girls (53%) and 52 boys (47%). Results Best-corrected visual acuity was measured at age 10.5 years for 110 of the 114 patients (96%) enrolled as infants.
